Poems

I have so many favorite poems from this month because I completed the Sealey Challenge (reading one poetry collection per day in the month of August). I'd really like to create a digital anthology of my favorites as a way of slow-studying the pieces that I fall in love with. I can't put them all here, but you should check out these if you have time.

I can't stop thinking about this Terrance Hayes poem from American Sonnets where he writes that Sylvia Plath must've been insufferable to be around. You can read it on the New Yorker site (it's the first poem. I'm framing it and putting it in my apartment).

"Keep it Going" by Federico Garcia Lorca
"I Was Going to Burn Some Sage for the People of this World But I Read an Article on the Internet Saying it was a Bad Idea" by Tom Snarsky
"de Criminal" by Gail Wronsky
"Apologia Matilde" and "Portrait of the Horse" by Jaswinder Bolina
"A Roman Garden", "Saint Cecilia", and "A Return" by Karl Kirchwey
"The Drinker", "Home After Three Months Away", "Waking in the Blue", and "Night Sweat" by Robert Lowell
"Nakedness", "After the Rain", "In the Shade", "In the Morning", and "Portrait" by Marzanna Kielar
"Lazarus", "Saint She of All the Missing Things" and "Black Escapism" by Faylita Hicks

I wrote several poems this month, including a piece about the Barbie dolls that get bagged and sold NAKED at the thrift shop, a poem about a baffling Hinge profile comment, and a poem about sitting at the dinner table in my twenties and hearing the real family lore.
